Carved from a single piece of elm this platter is a pure and artistic sculptures which highlight the beauty found in imperfection while respecting the nature of the wood and the traditional craft. Such vesels are the perfect addtion to any tabletop.

This platter was made from a first growth Elm tree. Almost every first growth elm tree was killed by the dutch elm disease almost 30 years ago, so once this wood is gone, there is simply no more. The process of taking a piece such as this platter from a raw piece of wood to a finished product takes many hours an incredible amount of work and passion the artist Mary.

Over time cracks will show in the wood, this is a natural process which only enhances the piece, they in them selves tell a story of the love of food shared over the years which inevitably become the heirloom pieces handed from generation to generation…. this is the beauty of wood, when cared for it will last many lifetimes.
