Objective: To infuse warmth, balance, and functionality into a newly renovated kitchen while addressing spatial constraints, and to extend the design aesthetic to additional custom furniture pieces for a cohesive home environment.
Project Scope: Design and craft a kitchen table, an entryway credenza with dry bar functionality, and a coffee table incorporating a repurposed stone slab, all tailored to the client’s unique preferences.
Kitchen Table:
Designed and handcrafted a compact, solid walnut kitchen table to maximize space while maintaining an open, airy feel. The table features intricate carvings that invite tactile interaction and draw attention to its artistic details, serving as a focal point in the kitchen.
Entryway Credenza/Dry Bar:
Inspired by the client’s enthusiasm for the kitchen table, I designed a dual-purpose entryway credenza with dry bar functionality. Constructed from 7/8” solid walnut, it includes a mirrored interior and glass shelves for elegance and utility. The handle was carved with a texture echoing the kitchen table’s base, ensuring design continuity.
Coffee Table:
Commissioned during the credenza build, the coffee table repurposes the client’s original stone kitchen tabletop. The design integrates this stone with a custom walnut base, harmonizing with the other pieces while preserving sentimental value.
Additional Gesture:
As a personal touch, I gifted the client a hand-carved walnut bowl, crafted from offcuts of the kitchen table’s wood, reinforcing the bespoke nature of the project.
Design Philosophy:
Each piece is uniquely crafted to reflect the client’s individuality, blending functionality with artistic detail to create timeless, tactile furniture that enhances the home’s warmth and character.
Client Testimonial
I had the pleasure of meeting Mary to discuss a kitchen table that was a custom size. I went to her shop where she took me through her process of creating custom family heirlooms that you will pass on from generation to generation.
I was so thrilled with my beautiful solid walnut kitchen table that I immediately asked her to make me a front entrance armoire.
